Substacks, Summits, and Spooky Sh*t for daaays

Hey Reader,

This week's a smorgasbord of links, things to do, and free goodies. Have fun! - D

Fresh on Substack: 4:20 is usually a timestamp worth a giggle (and possibly a gummy), but today, it was a deep, beleaguered sigh. 4:20AM is a time no one but farmers and Starbucks employees should be regularly familiar with.

Regrettably, my toddler has not gotten the memo about this. We are 10 days deep into a hellscape of not-enough-sleep, which tends to turn me into - to put it mildly - a raging bitch.

I'm an early girlie, but anything before 5:00am has me riding the struggle bus for the remainder of the day.

And today, I was shooting content at Kindred, so I had to get my shit together. Also, to get the fuck out of my house as soon as possible so there weren't any victims in my wake. I grabbed an outfit that fit my mood, added appropriately dark lipstick, and decided in my pissy state that I wasn't coming back to the house until I had to that afternoon.

The shot list for the day still needed some work, so I popped into Bleu Door Bakery. Whenever I do a market at Kindred with Hearth & Hollow, I always stop by for a sticky bun and coffee; but this morning, they had something even better waiting there for me.

Read the rest on Substack.

Candied jalapeños: I got the permit paperwork in! It'll take a few weeks to get it approved, but if you're local, you can preorder your jar here. Every jar purchased helps us fund our first run of product. We expect them to be available for pickup by the last weekend of November!

(Note: We unfortunately can't ship at this time and can only distribute jars in Washington. A great way to support in the meantime is the Substack!)

Vancouver Library Fundraiser: You can still get tickets to the local library's fundraiser and auction, and if you do, you'll be able to bid on great items like a quarter's worth of vegetable transplants from my plant CSA and a gorgeous ceramic planter. Let me know if you're going to be there!

(CSA = Community Supported Agriculture = locally grown plants in quality organic soil!)

Free Workshop Alert: If you’ve ever thought about writing a book for your business, my friend Brooke Adams Law is teaching a workshop just for you.

It’s called The Decisions You Need to Make NOW to Write (& Finish) Your Book in 2026.

Register for free here. Replay available if you can’t attend live!

Referral Worthy Season 2

She's written for TV, published books, and more - and she's here to give you the tea on how to get the attention you want for your product/brand/book. Beyond thrilled to share Melissa Cassera's interview with you today!

Hearth & Hollow News

Hearth & Hollow's Plant CSA for 2026 is officially open! (Asking "What's a Plant CSA?" Click here.)

Starting in February, you can now get your vegetable and herb starts locally here in Vancouver, WA.

Only 19 spots left.

Spooky Summit

I’m speaking at Tales From The Backend, a free Halloween-themed online summit (Oct 20–26) for folks who are tired of “proven systems” that don’t fit and want to build something that actually feels like them.

If your business could use a little spark, come hang out. 🎃

Last Thoughts

This week, I have to do one of the things I’ve historically struggled the most with: wait.

Everything is kinda in a holding pattern until I get back edits, photos, and various forms of permission and approval. EW.

Soooo here’s what we’re doing while we wait:

  • Outlining a zine for the local Little Free Libraries near me (Have I ascended to my final Portland form yet?)
  • Posting plants (and a few other things) on Facebook Marketplace
  • Emailing my list (Hi)
  • Working on the base for the new greenhouse (more sunshine yaaaay!)
  • Harassing my husband to cut a couple of boards for me so I can get a new garden bed in for us.
  • Maaaaybe cleaning up the south side of the yard

Tell me what you’re up to today. How are we fighting the good fight?

Talk soon,
